CAIRO – 12 October 2023: President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call from Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak, on Thursday to discuss the latest development of the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli war.

The phone call focused on the Israeli military escalation in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings, said the Egyptian Presidency in a statement.

The two sides agreed on the importance of continuing and intensifying efforts aimed at reducing tension, protecting civilians on both sides, and preventing the deterioration of the security and humanitarian situations.

President Sisi emphasized that Egypt is continuing its efforts to push toward adopting the path of calm and exercising utmost levels of self-restraint so as to prevent sliding into a bloody path that innocent civilians will pay the price of, warning that its repercussions will extend to the entire region.

President Sisi confirmed the need to ensure the regularity of humanitarian and relief services as well as aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The President reiterated the importance of pushing towards addressing the root causes of the crisis, and of working toward finding the appropriate political prospects to reach a just, comprehensive and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue in accordance with approved international references.

Hamas' Qassam Brigades launched Saturday an offensive on Israeli settlements on the occupied lands by firing 5,000 missiles in 20 minutes, invoking airstrikes on Gaza Strip and incurring scores of casualties on both sides as confrontations have not ceased until present.

Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that the death toll of the Palestinian people reached 1,385 Palestinians and 6,229 others were injured.

Israel announced that the number of the deaths reached 1,300 Israelis and 2506 others were injured.
