CAIRO – 8 October 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said Egypt has repeatedly warned of this painful scenario of escalation between the Israeli and Palestinian sides as a result of absence of fair settlement of the Palestinian cause.

Shoukry said that this scenario also comes as a result of the continuation of Israeli attacks as he made a phone call on Sunday with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani.

During the phone call, Shoukry stressed the need to intensify international efforts and coordination between influential parties in this regard.

Such coordination aims to push forward the de-escalation track, urge parties to exercise utmost restraint and prevent entering into a vicious circle of armed confrontations, Shoukry said.

He warned against the dire risks this escalation poses to innocent civilians as well as its consequences on security and stability in the region.

Shoukry called for working to halt the ongoing escalation by all means in order to prevent sliding into more violence and human suffering and stop putting the lives of civilians in danger.

Israeli towns continue to be engulfed in conflict as both Israel and Hamas fighters exchange fire.

This comes a day after Palestinian Hamas fighters breached the heavily fortified border from Gaza and entered nearby settlements, resulting in casualties and the capture of soldiers and civilians in an unprecedented attack.

According to various local media outlets, the death toll for Israelis has surpassed 600.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, vowing severe retaliation, has officially declared the country to be at war.

He has also promised to demolish Hamas sites, urging Palestinians to leave Gaza despite the challenges they face in doing so.

Gaza health authorities have reported 370 fatalities, as Israeli airstrikes persist without respite. Israel's military claims to have eliminated over 400 Hamas gunmen as ongoing battles aim to remove militants from eight settlements within Israel.

Israeli residents residing near the border have been given a 24-hour notice to evacuate their homes.

The military has issued a stern warning that any terrorists or commanders found in houses will be targeted by Israeli forces.
