CAIRO – 29 September 2023: Saad al-Din Ibrahim, Professor of Political Sociology and Director of the Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies, passed away at the age of 84.

 

His death was announced by Ibrahim Hassan, the Executive Director of the ICDS,  Ibn Khaldun Center for Development Studies, on his Facebook page.

 

Ibrahim was born in 1938 in Mansoura city of Dakahlia Governorate. He obtained a high school diploma in 1956 from Al-Malik Al-Tam School in Mansoura. He also obtained a bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts at Cairo University, Department of Sociology, in 1960.

 

In 1964, Ibrahim obtained a master’s degree in development sociology, and then a doctorate degree in political sociology in 1968.

 

He also obtained several postgraduate scholarships at the University of Washington and the University of California.

 

He had worked as a teaching assistant at Cairo University, in addition to becoming an assistant lecturer at the University of Washington, from 1964 until 1967.
