CAIRO – 25 September 2023: Egypt condemned in the strongest terms the recurring incidents of tearing down copies of the Holy Quran by extremist groups in the Netherlands, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Egypt deems these acts as provocative and irresponsible practices that violate the sanctities of millions of Muslims and fuel hate speech.

Egypt also warns against the grave repercussions of allowing the repetition of such hateful incidents, which cannot be justified under any circumstances.

These incidents herald the wide spread of more violence and extremism and the phenomena of Islamophobia and the contempt of religions in societies, along with undermining security, stability and peaceful coexistence, read the statement.

These provocative practices represent a flagrant violation of the freedom of belief and religious practices, as well as international conventions and human rights values, it added.

Egypt also urges world countries to shoulder their responsibilities towards such incidents and prevent their repetition, according to the statement
