CAIRO – 24 September 2023: Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres on Sunday, to discuss the latest developments in the African Sahel region, the situation in Libya, Sudan, and Syria, as well as the peace process in the Middle East

The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 78th United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement.

During the meeting, Shoukry said that the UN’s role in finding solutions to the region's crises should be backed and strengthened.

“The discussions also touched on the issue of climate change, sustainable development, and advancing the process of reforming the international multilateral action system,” Abu Zeid said.

The UN chief praised Egypt’s diplomatic “pioneering role” in various international multilateral forums, especially the United Nations, Abu Zeid continued.
