FM Shoukry probes with his Norwegian counterpart boosting bilateral ties

CAIRO- 20 September 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed, Wednesday with his Norwegian counterpart Anniken Huitfeldt ways of boosting bilateral relations and issues of mutual concern on the sidelines of the High-Level Segment of the 78th Session of United Nations General Assembly, currently in session in New York city.

Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu Zeid said the two ministers commended development of Egyptian-Norwegian relations on the different political and economic fronts serving the interests of the two countries.

They underscored the need of maintaining dialogue through existing bilateral channels, including political consultations mechanism between the two countries, added Abu Zeid.

The spokesman added the talks focused on economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway.

Shoukry hailed efforts by Norwegian companies to do business in Egypt, led by Norway's Scatec renewable energy company, according to the spokesman.

Shoukry praised the increase of the volume of the Norwegian company's investments in Egypt in the fields of clean energy, green hydrogen production and chemical industries.

Egypt seeks to expand the Norwegian investments in a number of promising sectors in the country, added the Egyptian foreign minister.

The talks also tackled cooperation and coordination in exchanging support for international nominations on different forums worldwide.

In turn, Huitfeldt hailed the investment atmosphere in Egypt along with facilitations and investment opportunities offered by the Egyptian government to Norwegian companies.

Shoukry tackled the Egyptian efforts to provide the humanitarian assistance to Sudanese people since the onset of the crisis and the political efforts to solve the problem in Sudan.

Shoukry posted his Norwegian counterpart as well on the latest developments of the Palestinian cause and truce efforts and de-escalation of the situation on the Palestinian-Israeli track.

Huitfeldt commended Egypt's role in supporting the stability of the region.
