CAIRO – 19 September 2023: As per directives issued by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to immediately provide support and humanitarian aid to the Libyan people, Egypt is taking part in the rescue and relief operations and efforts to recover bodies in flood-hit areas where thousands of people died.

The Armed Forces established a military relief camp at the flood-hit areas near Derna city to alleviate the suffering of the Libyan people and provide all the necessary medical and humanitarian assistance to them.

The Armed Forces also provided urgent humanitarian assistance to the citizens who are struggling to reach many areas.

Storm Daniel hit Libya on September 10, causing severe weather conditions including intense winds and sudden heavy rainfall that triggered unprecedented floods.

It has affected widespread areas in north-eastern Libya including the cities of Derna, Benghazi, Tobruk, Almari and Sousa. Many of the affected places are hard to reach, and communication has been cut-off
