FM Sameh Shoukry affirms Egypt's support to GDI since its launch

CAIRO – 19 September 2023: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry affirmed Egypt's unwavering support to the Global Development Initiative (GDI), since its launch in September 2021.

Shoukry's remarks came during his participation on Tuesday in a high-level meeting of the GDI's Group of Friends, which was held on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Shoukry, during the meeting held upon an Chinese invitation, extended thanks to China for holding such important meeting, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

He further affirmed that the economic crisis that the world is witnessing now is multi-dimensional, including the crises of global food insecurity and lack of energy resources, in addition to the increasing debt burden and human displacement, added the spokesman.

The foreign minister also stressed the importance of the GDI, given its effective role in promoting international cooperation in general and cooperation between southern countries in particular, according to the spokesman.

Shoukry also referred to the vital projects, which are implemented as part of the GDI, especially in the spheres of agriculture and facilitating e-commerce.

The spokesman confirmed Egypt's continued commitment to supporting the GDI and its efforts to promote international cooperation in the development sphere.
