Egypt, Argentina talk enhancing joint bilateral cooperation in tourism sector

CAIRO - 18 September 2023: Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Ahmed Issa received Ambassador Gonzalo Oriolabeta, the ambassador of Argentina in Cairo, to discuss mechanisms for enhancing joint bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the field of tourism and antiquities and to discuss ways to stimulate more tourist traffic coming from Argentina to Egypt.
 
The meeting, which took place at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, was attended by Mr. Jose Flores, Deputy Ambassador to the Argentine Embassy, and Mr. Ciro Romini, Cultural Attaché to the Embassy. Dr. Mustafa Waziri, Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Professor Youmna Al-Bahar, Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and Affairs of the Minister’s Office, and Ambassador Khaled Tharwat, Advisor to the Minister for Foreign and International Relations, were present from the Ministry. And the general supervisor of the Ministry’s General Department of International Relations and Agreements.
 
Ahmed Issa began the meeting by welcoming the ambassador and his accompanying delegation, stressing the depth of relations between the two countries in many fields, including the field of tourism and antiquities.
 
The Minister pointed out that the developments in tourism flow coming to Egypt from Argentina have witnessed a noticeable increase during the past period, hoping that the coming period will witness more cooperation to attract a larger number of Argentine tourists to visit Egypt and enjoy its diverse tourism and archaeological features.
 
The meeting also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the field of archaeological work, where reference was made to the work of a number of archaeological missions from Argentina in restoring some archaeological tombs located in Luxor Governorate, which are scheduled to be opened soon after the completion of the restoration and maintenance project.
 
The proposal for the Ministry’s participation in one of the tourism exhibitions that will be organized in Argentina was also discussed, and it will provide a good opportunity to meet professional partners there to discuss enhancing ways of cooperation to attract more incoming traffic to the Egyptian tourist destination.
 
The importance of studying the proposal to hold a temporary exhibition of Egyptian antiquities in Argentina was also discussed, as an opportunity to highlight the ancient Egyptian civilization, introduce the Argentine people to it closely, and promote the Egyptian tourist destination, especially cultural tourism, which is one of the target segments according to the national strategy for tourism development in Egypt.
 
For his part, Ambassador Gonzalo Oriolapita stressed that the Egyptian tourist destination is an important destination for tourists in his country because of its diverse and unique tourist and archaeological features.
 
He also spoke about the passion of the Argentine people for ancient Egyptian civilization and their study of ancient Egyptian history in schools.  
 
He pointed out his expectations that tourist traffic coming to Egypt will increase during the coming period.
