CAIRO - 11 September 2023: Siwa Oasis is now witnessing turbulent weather conditions with increasing activity of dust-laden winds, reaching fog in some places, due to the imminent arrival of the remnants of Storm Daniel to western Egypt, which is currently striking areas of eastern Libya.

Storm Daniel is close to arrive in Egypt, bringing heavy rains, thunderstorms and strong winds.

The impact of the storm is expected to reach the city of Salloum and Matrouh in the coming hours, according to the Meteorological Authority’s forecasts, that the remnants of Storm Daniel will reach the Egyptian coasts, the far west of the northern coast, Matrouh and Salloum, on Monday.

Matrouh Governorate is currently witnessing relatively mild weather, and the temperature at the beginning of the evening was 30 degrees Celsius, and currently 28 degrees, with light wind activity, especially in open areas and on the seashore.

On the other hand, Major General Khaled Shuaib, Governor of Matrouh, directed to raise the level of readiness of all concerned parties in the governorate, to review preparations for the rainy season and expected torrential rains, during the coming period, especially with the Meteorological Authority’s expectations that the regions of western Egypt will witness instability in weather conditions starting today, Monday.

The Governor of Matrouh stressed the need to be fully prepared and ready to confront floods and any emergency, especially with the climatic changes that the world is witnessing, and the need for all concerned parties to carry out their role and responsibilities, with good planning and actual implementation of tasks and continuous follow-up.

The Governor of Matrouh also directed to review and audit all data on flood response equipment and devices, flood outlets and their locations, determine the path of water and its gathering points, whether inside or outside cities and on the international coastal road, and review the readiness of electricity poles, wires and insulation, and preserve lives and property while managing.

He further instructed to identify all rainwater collection points, especially those most vulnerable to damage, determine their locations to drain rainwater collections, identify water collection areas near electricity transformers, and take urgent measures.
