CAIRO - 11 September 2023: Sheikh Mustafa Spahic, the Mufti of Belgrade, has hailed efforts exerted by Egypt and President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to support the Islamic world's causes.

In statements, the Serbian Mufti described Egypt as the beacon of Islam due to the presence of Al Azhar, the most prestigious Sunni institution in the world, on the country's lands.

He said the 34th international conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (SCIA), that kicked off on Saturday was a chance to discuss important issues related to the Islamic world.

The conference, themed "cyberspace and modern means of religious discourse”, aims to focus on issues related to the rational use of cyberspace and artificial intelligence and the unconventional ways of developing the religious discourse, among others.

The Mufti further emphasized the importance of collaboration and unity among Muslim-majority countries to address global challenges, promote shared values, and create a harmonious environment for future generations. He also expressed hopes for deeper ties between Serbia's Muslim community and Egypt, urging both to work hand-in-hand for the betterment of the Islamic world.

Egypt has been a significant player in the Islamic world due to its historical, cultural, and political influences. Its institutions, particularly Al-Azhar University, are renowned for Islamic scholarship and have played a role in shaping the discourse on modern Islam.

Serbia, though a majority Christian country, has a significant Muslim minority, and this outreach by the Serbian Mufti signifies the importance of inter-religious dialogue and collaboration.
