CAIRO - 4 Septemebr 2023: Egyptian Minister of Irrigation Hani Swelim arrived here on Monday to take part in Africa Climate Summit, which runs from September 4 to 6.

In statements upon arrival, the minister said his participation in this important summit comes as part of Egypt's keenness on interacting and coordinating with various countries as regards water issues and means of dealing with the climate change file and its negative impact on the water sector especially in Africa.

He added that the summit aims at crystallizing a unified African vision for dealing with climate issue to be floated at the UN Climate Summit (COP28), due to be held in UAE in November.

Swelim is scheduled to meet with a number of African ministers concerned with the water file as well as senior officials at regional and international organizations operating on the water issue.

At the Africa Climate Summit, leaders will be called upon to make ambitious pledges and commitments. A comprehensive "Pledging and Commitment Framework" will be developed to guide these actions. By embracing ambitious ideas and making bold commitments, African leaders have the opportunity to turn the tide on climate change, not only in Africa but also globally.
