CAIRO - 30 August 2023: Spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, confirmed that there is a strategic stock of vaccines sufficient for a long period, indicating that the currently available vaccine is valid for COVID mutations.

The currently available vaccine is free of charge, he said, adding that the ministry has called on high-risk groups, such as those with chronic diseases, to obtain booster doses in order to confront infection with the new mutant Eg.5.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, further said that there is no concern about the new mutant, as it is weak and does not have dangerous complications, adding that the cases that were detected to be infected with the mutant have improved and recovered.

He continued: "There is a surveillance team, and the Epidemiological Department is working continuously to monitor the disease," ensuring that so far the epidemiological situation is stable and there will not be a second pandemic because the disease is now being treated as a seasonal disease.

For his part, Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the Scientific Committee to Combat Corona, revealed that the new mutant EG5 affects the upper respiratory system, and its symptoms include a running nose, sneezing, high temperature, sore throat, and slight cracking in the body.

Dr. Hossam Hosni explained that all reagents for detecting the new Eg5 mutant related to the genetic sequence have been provided. He continued: "Only in moderate cases can antibiotics be taken, but after consulting a doctor, warning against resorting to antibiotics to treat the new mutant."

Dr. Hossam Hosni, head of the Scientific Committee for Corona, indicated that surveillance is being carried out in all chest hospitals nationwide to detect the new variant of Corona, and he continued: There are no dangerous cases of Corona in general, and all infections, if any, are minor and recover quickly.

Regarding the symptoms of the Omicron EG-5.2 mutant, he said that the symptoms of the new mutant are high temperatures, coughing, loss of the sense of smell and taste, or a change in the senses, general weakness, sore throat, and severe cough, pointing out that the new mutant represents a danger to those with chronic diseases and the elderly.

Hossam Hosni advised citizens to wear a mask to protect against any viruses, stressing that the mask is a preventive measure and not a punishment, and caution must be done, but there is no need for concern or underestimation.
