CAIRO – 9 August 2023: Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has ordered continuing the enhancement of the role of the national donation-based Tahya Misr Fund as a complement to the state’s efforts in achieving sustainable development.

In a meeting with Mohamed Amin, the presidential advisor for financial affairs, on Wednesday, Sisi ordered enhancing the fund’s role in supporting the vulnerable groups and improving their living standards.

Sisi also ordered supporting the fund in enhancing the vulnerable groups’ capabilities in facing societal challenges in partnership with the government bodies, the civil society groups and the private sector.

Tahya Misr Fund was established in 2014 to support national economy, overcome the hard economic circumstances and achieve social justice.

According to official data in January, total contributions made by the fund amounted to LE 22 billion in many fields, including urban development, housing, healthcare, social protection, economic empowerment, employment, education and investments.

Over the past decade, Egypt has introduced numerous social protection programs and initiatives to support the vulnerable amid the growing economic woes.

Such initiatives include Haya Karima (Decent Life) endorsed by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to improve people’s living standards in the countryside, targeting around 58 percent of Egypt’s 105-million population living in thousands of villages nationwide.
