Sisi mades phone call with Sudani of Iraq

CAIRO - 11 June 2023:  Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani is to pay an important visit to Egypt on Monday, said government spokesman Bassem Al Awadi.



Al Awadi said the visit aims at holding talks on means of beefing up bilateral ties and cooperation, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

 

In May, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received the Head of Hikma National Movement in Iraq Ammar Alhakeem in Cairo, where they discussed historical and strong relations between the two countries.

 

Shoukry expressed appreciation for Alhakeem’s role in strengthening relations between the two countries, affirming Egypt's keenness to advance cooperation with Iraq and looking forward to the convening of the joint Egyptian-Iraqi higher committee at the level of the prime ministers of the two countries in Cairo soon, said Egyptian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid in a statement.

Both sides also discussed the opportunities for Egyptian companies to contribute to development and reconstruction projects in Iraq.

 

Minister Shoukry stressed Egypt’s interest in the tripartite cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Iraq and Jordan and the aspiration to implement the agreed cooperation projects as soon as possible, Abu Zeid added.

 

The Foreign Minister also expressed Egypt's full support for Iraq in its war against terrorism, to support the safety, security and stability of Iraq.

 

For his part, Alhakeem expressed his deep appreciation for Egypt and its historical and pivotal role in the region, stressing the interest in strengthening bilateral relations between Egypt and Iraq, Abu Zeid continued.
