CAIRO – 27 April 2023: Egypt's Naval Forces rescued on Thursday 37 people of different nationalities after evacuating them from a tourist boat after it capsized off the Red Sea Naval Base, according to the military spokesman.

A mayday call was sent by the boat which carried 14 British persons, three Germans, four Belgians, three Spanish, one Irish, one Swiss alongside eight Egyptian crew members and three divers, the spokesman said, adding that immediate orders were issued by the General Command of the Armed Forces to dispatch a naval patrol speedboat to rescue the passengers of the ill-fated launch.

The rescued passengers have received medical care upon their arrival at the pier at the Red Sea Naval Base, the spokesman added.

The rescue operation falls within the framework of the Naval Forces' continued support to the naval search and rescue missions carried out at all strategic destinations across the Egyptian coasts
