Egyptian ministry reveals progress rate of '100 Million Trees' initiative

CAIRO - 28 December 2022: The Ministry of Local Development released a statement Wednesday detailing the progress rate of the implementation of the presidential initiative "100 Million Trees" and that is planned to be completed over seven years.

 

The statement pointed out that the target for FY2022/2023 is 7.7 million trees at a cost of LE200 million, and that the number of trees that have been cultivated until present amounts to 3.173 million trees.

 

The ministry noted that it is contributing to the initiative by cultivating 80 trees, while the rest will be grown by the Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Housing. The 100 million trees will be cultivated across 9,900 locations on a total area of 6,600 feddans constituting forests and parks that are irrigated by treated wastewater.

 

The breakdown of what has been achieved until present is 173,000 trees in Cairo; 270,000 in Giza; 93,600 in Sharqia; 90,000 in each of Daqahliyah and New Valley; 72,000 in Ismailiyah; 63,000 in Aswan; 61,200 in Gharbia; 54,000 in each of Beheira and Beni Suef; 45,000 in each of Alexandria, Menoufeya, Menya and Qena; 36,00 in each of Kafr El Sheikh, Damietta, South Sinai, Suez, and Asyut; 34,200 in Qaloubiyah; 27,000 in Fayoum; 23,400 in each of Matrouh, North Sinai, Port Said, Sohag, Red Sea, and Luxor.

 

The statement revealed the species of trees cultivated, and those are camphor, casuarina, conocarps, orange, guava, olive, bologna, white poplar, mahogany, lemon, and pomegranate among others.
