CAIRO – 23 October 2022: Canadian lawmaker Sherif Sabawi lauded on Sunday Egypt's hosting of the COP27 conference in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el Sheikh in November, saying such an international event reflects the important role the Egyptian state plays towards mitigating the serious effects of climate change.

Speaking to MENA, he said the Egyptian government set a group of goals that it seeks to achieve through the conference in order to reach objective results based on international obligations starting from Rio 1992 till Glasgow 2021.

He underlined the importance of building the capabilities of young people, civil society, women and children to face climate change and include this important issue in school curricula to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment.

He said Canada will take part in the conference with a high-level delegation that includes representatives of all provinces, especially Ontario.

He lauded the tangible steps taken by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to achieve development in the country through adopting economic reforms and overhauling infrastructure.

Earlier, Canada announced its ambitious climate targets of 40 to 45 percent emissions reductions (from 2005 levels) by 2030.
