Egypt mourns death of Japan’s Abe as ‘supportive friend, partner’

CAIRO – 8 July 2022: The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has mourned the death of Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, saying he was a “supportive friend and partner” to Egypt.

Abe died in hospital on Friday morning after he was shot twice at a political campaign event, while giving a speech in Nara city, in southern Japan.

In a statement, the Egyptian ministry extended condolences to the government and people of Japan in the death of the former premier “after a luminous path of sincere political work during which he provided a lot to serve his country and the friendly Japanese people”.

The ministry also extended condolences to the family of the late premier and those loving him, expressing appreciation for the important role Abe had provided throughout the path of his political path to enhance the Egyptian-Japanese relations.

Throughout this path, Abe was a “supportive friend and partner to Egypt and had truly contributed to consolidating the distinguished cooperation and extended friendship between the two countries and their friendly peoples,” the ministry added.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has also offered his deep condolences for the death of Abe.

“With deep sorrow and sadness, I received the news of the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe after a treacherous assassination. Shinzo Abe was a loyal friend of Egypt, loving it, and was supporting it at all times and circumstances,” said Sisi in a statement.

“During his tenure, our bilateral relations witnessed an unprecedented development at all levels. I offer my condolences to the friendly Japanese people for the loss of such a great leader,” President Sisi added.

“I assure that Egypt would never forget the efforts Shinzo Abe exerted to consolidate our cooperation. We will immortalize his name as it should be,” the President continued.
