CAIRO – 3 May 2022: Brazilian Minister of Agriculture will embark on a tour to Egypt, Jordan and Morocco this week to import more fertilizers for his country, Reuters reported on Tuesday.

His tour to those countries aims at finding alternatives to main fertilizer importers like China, Russia and Belarus after the EU had imposed sanctions on them due to the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In August 2019, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the Phosphatic and Compound Fertilizers Complex which is established in the industrial zone in Ain Sokhna, and a number of new production lines were inspected in the complex.  The complex is established in an area of400 feddans, said the Egyptian Presidency in a statement.

The new complex includes 9 factories and was established in 3 years. It provides 1500 direct job opportunities and 20,000 indirect job opportunities, the statement added.

Trade and Industry Minister Nevine Gamae said Sunday that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Brazil upped during 2021 by 30 percent, amounting to some $2.5 billion .

In 2020, the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached $1.9 billion, Gamea said after receiving a report from the Egyptian commercial office in São Paulo.

The report focused on the development of Egyptian exports to Brazil, pointing out that it reached $542 million last year; up 155.4 percent from $212 million in 2020.
