CAIRO - 1 February 2022: Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed Tuesday with Fatah central committee secretary Jibril Rajoub the latest developments of the Palestinian cause.


Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez said the meeting dealt with Egypt's support to the Palestinians and efforts exerted to resuscitate peace talks and establish an independent Palestinian state.

Shoukry has voiced Egypt's support for efforts exerted to improve the situation in Palestine at the political and economic levels.

During a meeting with Secretary-General of the Fatah Central Committee Jibril Rajoub, the foreign minister said that Egypt backs development efforts in the Palestinian territories, stressing the need to create an appropriate atmosphere to revive negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides.

Shoukry also voiced Egypt's support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to have an independent Palestinian state on the borders of 1967 with East Jerusalem as its capital, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez said.

Rajoub, for his part, briefed the foreign minister on the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.

He also praised a role played by Egypt to achieve national reconciliation in Palestine.

The two sides exchanged visions on ways to push forward the political process and stay in touch with parties concerned with the Palestinian cause.
