Egypt-Italy relations long-standing: Parliament speaker

CAIRO - 11 July 2017: Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal said on Monday relations between Egypt and Italy are long-standing and historic in all fields.

Egypt plays a vital role in protecting the European security, especially in countering illegal immigration and terrorism, Abdel Aal said during his meeting with head of the Italian Senate's Defense Commission Nicola Latorre.

Egypt lives in a restive region and shoulders a big responsibility for protecting its security and that of the region, he added.

For his part, Latorre said Egypt plays an important role in the Mediterranean region, lauding the country’s efforts in countering illegal immigration
