Partial inauguration of GEM imminent: Minister

CAIRO - 5 July 2017: The partial inauguration of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) is so imminent, Minister of Antiquities Khaled el Anani said on Wednesday.

The project's current phase ends in April 2018, ahead of its timeline set for mid-2018, Anani added during a press conference after the Cabinet's Wednesday meeting.

Meanwhile, Anani added that the Cabinet under Prime Minister Sherif Ismail has approved moving the 70-ton-statue of Ramses II to its final position at the Grand Egyptian Museum.

The Arab Contractors company will be in charge of moving the statue, Anani noted.
