CAIRO - 17 June 2017: Animal rights activists protested outside a bullfight in Spain this weekend, AFP reported Thursday.

The activists protested at the Corpus Christi festival bullfight in Granada, where “matadors perform with bulls as a part of a yearly festival that lasts for seven days,” AFP said.

During the Corpus Chrsiti festival a lot of celebrations and activities take place around town including puppet shows, children’s activities, bullfighting, decorations, competitions and exhibitions. There are also regional dances and music performances that take place during this event.

One of the most important parts of the celebration is the Spanish bullfighting, which is called “corrida de toros,” which literally means ‘running of the bulls.’ Bullfighting is a physical contest that involves humans attempting to publicly overpower, paralyze or kill a bull, according to a set of cultural rules.

According to the AFP ,“This involves the torturing, wounding and inflicting pain on the poor animal, which raises the anger of pro-animal rights activists,” who have protested this year against the Corpus Christi festival bullfight in the city of Granada, Spain.
