CAIRO – 13 May 2019: Egypt’s House of Representatives is set to discuss Monday a parliamentary report on exempting diplomatic or special passport holders from entry visa requirements between Egypt and Azerbaijan.

The report was drafted by the foreign affairs and national security committees at the Parliament upon an agreement signed by both Egypt and Azerbaijan in Baku in May 24, 2010.

According to the report, the agreement aims to facilitate the entry of citizens from both countries who hold diplomatic or special passports or are on a specific mission, to be exempted from applying for a visa, and to be granted a 30-day stay.

The agreement also facilitates visits by high-ranking officials from both countries, as one of the international tools known to boost bilateral relations.

If passed by the Parliament, the agreement will further enable those who were assigned to work for diplomatic missions, consulates or international organizations in any of both countries to stay with their family members who hold diplomatic or special passports for the whole period of the mission.

In case citizens with diplomatic or special passports wanted to stay longer than 30 days, they will need to apply for a stay visa upon the requirements of each country.

In November 2018, Egypt and Azerbaijan launched the first sxsdirect flight route between Baku and the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El Sheikh. Both countries hope the route helps boost the volume of trade exchange between the two countries to hit about $7 billion.
