CAIRO – 28 July 2017: Promising to always remember him as a gentle soul who will surely be missed, many of Stephan Keenan’s friends from the international community and the Bedouin one have showed up to mourn his departure by the sea he always loved, BBC.com reported.

Dahab lost one of its greatest divers and heroes on Saturday July 22, Stephan Keenan was providing assistance to a fellow free diver when she got disoriented under water, he rushed to her rescue but in doing so he lost his life.

Keenan was an Irishman who lived in Dahab for the last 8 years, where he practiced his favorite sport freediving, which means diving without an oxygen tank relying only on holding of the breath.

He was also the co-owner of ‘Dahab Freedivers,’ an organization that sought to teach and organize freediving, and the Chief of Safety for many freediving competitions, who tried to always ensure the safety of others.
