CAIRO, 24 September 2020: Mayar Sharif achieved a historic achievement for Egypt in the Roland Garros Championship, one of the major tournaments (Grand Slam), by skipping the first round of the preliminary round matches.

 

Mayar beat Colombia's Maria Osorio 6-4, 6-0 to qualify for the second round.

 

The Roland Garros website celebrated Mayar Sherif as the first Egyptian to win in any Grand Slam game.

 

Mayar Sharif had secured her qualification for the Olympic Games in Tokyo as the first Egyptian to achieve this achievement.

 

Mayar will play her next match against American Katie McNally on Thursday in the semi-finals of the preliminary round.

 

The Egyptian player is seeking to achieve an unprecedented achievement by being in the main roles for the first time.
