CAIRO-17 September 2020: Germany national handball team captain Uwe Gensheimer believes that the 27th IHF Men's Handball World Championship should be held on its previously planned and scheduled time in January 2021 in Egypt.

"We all know how many viewers we get in front of the TV with the national team, that we are the driving force behind our sport. And that is why it is not worth doing without the World Championship," Gensheimer told Bild.

The competition's draw was held on 5 September at the Giza Pyramids Plateau and resulted in an easy group for the Germans.

Germany national handball team was drawn in Group A alongside Hungary, Uruguay and Cape Verde.

Germany, who have participated in 24 editions of the Handball World Championship, are one of the main contenders for the title as they won three world cup titles in 1938, 1978, and 2007.

Egypt hosts the competition between 14 January and 31 January. The competition will see the participation of 32 teams for the first time in the competition's history.
