CAIRO – 24 June 2017: Olympic swimmer Dan Wallace was suspended from all Scottish and British swimming competitions for three months after admitting to driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI) on Friday.

Wallace commented on the incident with regret, "I am deeply sorry…Not only have I let myself, my family and team-mates down, I have put others at risk and I am profoundly sorry," as reported by BBC.

In response to the charges brought against the Olympic medalist, Scottish Swimming Director of Performance Ally Whike and British Swimming National Performance Director Chris Spice said, “We can confirm that Dan Wallace has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. This is clearly unacceptable behavior from Dan and we are disappointed by his actions.”

Upon further reflection of his actions and the future, Wallace said to Swimming World Magazine: “I am now looking to rebuild trust in everyone who has supported me and put their faith in me, and will do whatever it takes to come through this a better, stronger person. I am deeply sorry.”

The 24-year-old from Edinburgh, participated in the 2016 Olympic games in Rio, Brazil, where he won the Silver medal with the British Swimming team in 4x200m relay.
