CAIRO-20 March 2020: German virologist Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit believes that it will be difficult to resume football competitions this year following the outbreak of coronavirus across the world.

"I am convinced that we'll only be able to start playing again next year. I don't think it's realistic to think that the current season can be completed." The German told Marca.

Coronavirus outbreak has had a huge effect on football as many football competitions worldwide has been halted completely due to the coronavirus.

Schmidt-Chanasit added "I don't think we can start talking about playing matches again in April. Not even behind closed doors, because there is the potential of people gathering in their homes to watch it."

The governing body of European football, UEFA, decided to postpone the UEFA EURO 2020 to 2021 summer to buy time for domestic federations to complete the season.
