Al-Ahly has set the initial date for confronting Al-Hilal of Saudi Arabia in the retirement festival of Libyan football star Tarek Al-Taib.

Al-Ahly set a preliminary date for the match on January 13th, after the approval of coach Rene Weiler, the Reds' coach.

"Sayed Abdul Hafeez, Director of Football at Al-Ahly Club, confirmed that he had held a meeting with Swiss coach Rene Weiler, the coach of the first football team, to discuss Al-Ahly's participation in the retirement festival of Libyan star Tariq Al-Taib, facing the Saudi Al Hilal team in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia."

He explained that the coach agreed to participate in the match, despite the consecutive pressure of the matches at the local and continental levels in the recent period, especially that the match will be held in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and in appreciation of the generous initiative by Chancellor Turki Al Sheikh, head of the Entertainment in the Kingdom, which will sponsor the festival, and within the framework of the close relations that link Al-Ahly and all their brothers from Arab clubs and their stars over generations, led by Libyan star Tariq Al-Taib.

Abdel Hafeez added that the matter was discussed in all its aspects with Weiler, and that, according to the local and African team links, the proposed date of the match so far is January 13th.

The team will be traveling to Zimbabwe by a private plane to play against Platinum Stars in the fourth round of the group stage of the African Champions League on January 11, then the private plane transports Al-Ahly's mission from Cairo to Zimbabwe, then flies after the Platinum match to Saudi Arabia on January 12, to run the Saudi Al Hilal match on the 13th of the same month, to return immediately thereafter to Cairo to face Tanta in the Egyptian league on January 15 ".
