CAIRO, 7 July 2019: Egypt lost at their home in the African Cup of Nations for the first time in 33 years.

A great shock to the Egyptian team as they bid farewell to the African Cup in their home, after standing without doing anything, against South Africa who fought and won a historic victory.

This is the first defeat for Egypt in their home since 1986, when they hosted the tournament.

Egypt won the title then, but the Pharaohs lost the opening game against Senegal on March 7, 1986.

Since then, Egypt won four games in 1986, won five times and drew once in 2006 and won three games in the 2019 edition.

Egyptian Football Association President Hany Abo Rida sacked the Egyptian national team coaching staff on the early hours of Sunday.

Abo Rida, as well as many board members, resigned from their position.
The Egyptian players let down the fans who packed the Cairo Stadium to support the team.
