CAIRO - 8 June 2017: Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte denied having contemplated suicide after the Rio Olympics, after comments he made to ESPN were interpreted as such. Lochte told TMZ On Wednesday that he “was in a very dark place after Rio, but I never thought about taking my own life.”

In an earlier interview with ESPN he said there were moments where he “was crying, thinking, ‘If I go to bed and never wake up, fine.”

Lochte gained infamy during the Rio Olympics after he and fellow team mates Jimy Feigen, Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger claimed they were attacked by men armed with guns at a gas station in Rio de Janeiro. Investigations revealed the group were held at the gas station by police for damages done to a public bathroom.

Lochte,12 time Olympic medalist, was suspended from swimming for 10 months after the incident. His suspension ended June 30.
