CAIRO – 7 June 2017: Qatar’s chances to host the 2022 World Cup are challenged following a recently-imposed diplomatic isolation on the energy-rich country, initiated by several Arab countries over terrorism support.

"The football community worldwide should agree that large tournaments cannot be played in countries that actively support terrorism," German Football Association President Reinhard Grindel said as quoted by Duetsch Wella Tuesday.

Along with Egypt and Libya, The U.S.-backed Gulf States of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emiratsdecided on Monday to severe diplomatic relations with Qatar over its support of terrorism and extremist government of Iran.

Shortly after the news broke, FIFA released a statement saying their confidence in Qatar’s ability to host the World Cup has begun to diminish.
