CAIRO – 6 June 2017: After a long 2016/2017 season of Champions League football, the results are in for the UEFA Team of the Year. The selection for the team is made by users on UEFA.com and based on scored goals, assists, clearances, successful tackles and clean sheets.

The 2016 UEFA Team of the Year is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus), Jan Oblak (Atlético).

Defenders: Leonardo Bonucci (Juventus), Dani Carvajal (Real Madrid), Marcelo (Real Madrid), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Diego Godín (Atlético).

Midfielders: Casemiro (Real Madrid), Toni Kroos (Real Madrid), Luka Modrić (Real Madrid), Isco (Real Madrid), Miralem Pjanić (Juventus), Tiemoué Bakayoko (Monaco).

Forwards: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid), Lionel Messi (Barcelona), Antoine Griezmann (Atlético), Kylian Mbappé (Monaco), Robert Lewandowski (Bayern).

Real Madrid won the Champions League title for this year, adding to its record of 12 Champions League titles, placing them in first place for total number of titles.
