CAIRO – 16 January 2019: Egypt International, Mohamed el-Neny, is about to join the Italian giants, AS Roma, on loan from his current club, Arsenal, during the winter market, according to Italian sources.

The Egyptian midfielder failed to establish himself as a key player under the command of Arsenal’s new manager, Unai Emey, who prefers Lucas Torreira, Mattéo Guendouzi and Granit Xhaka over Neny.

Neny, 26, participated only in 418 minutes with Arsenal this season and featured in one game at the league against Burnley; he was substituted after 59 minutes.

Neny is an Arab Contractors academy product. He left the club in 2013 to join Swiss club, Basel, following the steps of his fellow, Mohamed Salah.

Neny had great three years with Basel that caught the interest of then Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, who signed him in January 2016.

The midfielder wants to leave Arsenal on a loan to gain more playing time and to get ready to participate with the Egyptian national team at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt next summer.
