CAIRO – 14 January 2019: Egypt International, Ahmed el-Ahmar, scored six goals against Qatar at Egypt’s second game of the 2019 World Men's Handball Championship held in Denmark and Germany and he has become the leading scorer of Egypt and Africa at the Handball World Cup competitions.
Ahmar, who had scored 220 goals for Egypt at the World Cup before the game against Qatar, needed only three goals to break the record.
The player, known as the golden boy of Egyptian handball, started his journey with the national team at the World Cup competitions in 2005 in Tunisia and since then he led the team at eight consecutive tournaments.
Ahmar’s fame reached the levels of football stars in Egypt and he is considered by many as the best player in the history of the game in the African continent.
Egyptian handball fans count on Ahmar to help the team get out of their difficult situation at the World Cup and avoid the early exit from the competition.
Egypt will face Argentina on Monday in a “win or die” game for the Egyptian team to keep their chances to reach the second round as the team lost their first two games to Sweden and Qatar, respectively.
The World Cup draw put Egypt in Group D alongside Sweden, Hungary, Qatar, Argentina and Angola.
