CAIRO – 6 January 2019: Bahrain national team striker, Mohamed al-Romaihi, revealed on Saturday that he is happy with the draw against UAE at the 2019 Asian Cup opening game but he believes that his team deserved to win.

“It is a good result against UAE in front of their fans. They have a great squad with so much experience in these tournaments.” Romaihi who scored Bahrain’s goal at the game told press.

The hosts were the better side at the first half and created many chances to score but the Bahraini defense stopped all their attacks and the first half ended 0-0.
At the second half, the same scenario continued with waves of attacks from UAE players who failed to put the ball at the back of the net.
Bahrain shocked the Emirati fans when Romaihi opened the score 12 minutes before the final whistle.

The night was saved for the hosts when the referee whistled a penalty for them and Khalil converted it to make the score 1-1 and end the opening game of the tournament with a draw.

Romaihi added, “We suffered at the first half but we improved at the second half and we were the better side. We deserved to win but we hope for better results at the remaining games.”

Bahrain plays in Group A alongside India, Thailand and the host nation, UAE.
