Egypt to face five teams in women’s Afrobasket

CAIRO – 29 May 2017: The draw for FIBA women’s AfroBasket 2017 took place Saturday in Mali’s capital city of Bamako. The championship will be held between August 18-27.

The competition comprises of 12 teams. Group A includes Mali, Cameroon, Tunisia, Cote D’Ivoire, Angola, and a team that will receive a Wild Card. Group B includes Senegal, Nigeria, Guinea, Egypt, Mozambique, and Zone 4 teams.

That championship serves as a qualifier for FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain. In the First-Phase, each team will play against the other five teams in the same group. The Second-Phase starting from Quarter-Finals till Semi-finals will be played in a knockout format.

Classification Games (9-12) will take place on days 8 and 9, and Classification Games (5-8) will take place on days 9 and 10. The third-place game and the final will be played on the last day of the tournament.

Egypt’s women’s basketball national team has Amr Ashour as its athletic director.
