CAIRO – 5 November 2018: CAF Referees Committee announced on Monday that South African referee Victor Gomes will be in charge of Egypt’s clash against Tunisia at the 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Gomes will be assisted on the lines by his compatriots, Zakhele Siwela and Johannes Moshidi, with Victor Hlungwani as a fourth referee.

The Referee Committee had previously selected Algerian referee Mustapha Ghorbal to officiate the game, but then decided to change him after the incidents of CAF Champions League final first leg in Alexandria between Al-Ahly and Tunisian giants Espérance on Friday night.

The game in Alexandria was officiated by Algerian referee Mehdi Abid Charef, who took many controversial decisions during the game, including issuing two penalties for the host team.

The Tunisian side showed their angers towards the Algerian referee and reported him to CAF, according to Goal.com.

Al-Ahly defeated Espérance 3-1 at the first leg, and they are preparing for the second leg in Tunisia on Friday night.

Tunisia leads the group with 12 points from four consecutive victories, three points ahead of Egypt which comes second, while Niger and eSwatini share the bottom with one point each.
