CAIRO – 16 October 2018: Tunisia achieved a 2-1 away victory over Niger on Tuesday, Oct. 16 at the 2019 African Cup of Nations’ qualifiers.

Firas Chaouat scored Tunisia’s two goals at the game while Youssouf Oumarou scored the hosts’ only goal.

Tunisia’s victory means that Tunisia and Egypt secured their spots at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon with two matches to spare. Both teams accompanied Madagascar, the first African team to qualify.

Tunisia leads the group with 12 points from four consecutive victories, three points ahead of Egypt that comes second, while Niger and eSwatini share the bottom with one point each.

Egypt’s remaining games at the group will be against Niger in Niamey before hosting their Arab rivals, Tunisia, in the qualifiers’ last game.

“Our preparations for the tournament start with achieving victory over Tunisia at the last game. We want to keep our amazing run, win the last two games and improve our ranking before the African Cup of Nations’ draw,” Egypt captain, Ahmed el-Mohmady, told press on Tuesday.

Egypt defeated eSwatini 2-0 earlier on Tuesday thanks to Ahmed Hegazi and Marwan Mohsen’s goals.
