Salah among nominees for Ballon d’Or award

CAIRO – 9 October 2018: Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, is among the nominees for the 2018 Ballon d’Or award.

Salah is the first Egyptian player ever to be nominated for the award.

Salah won the nomination after an amazing season with his club, Liverpool, having scored 44 goals, including 32 goals in the league to be the Premier League top goal scorer.

He also led the Egyptian national team to the 2018 World Cup in Russia for the first time since 1990 in Italy but the shoulder injury he picked at the UEFA Champions League final affected his performance at the tournament.




Salah is nominated for the award alongside his teammates in Liverpool, Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Allison Bicker.

Luka Modric, FIFA player of the year and UEFA player of the year, was named among the nominees alongside Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronalo, who won the award five times each.

The nominees for the award are:

Barcelona: Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic

Real Madrid: Modric, Rafael Varane, Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale, Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Thibaut Courtois and Isco.

Atletico Madrid: Diego Godin, Antoine Griezmann and Jan Oblak.

Liverpool: Salah, Mane, Firmino and Allison

Tottenham Hotspurs: Harry Kane and Hugo Lioris

Paris Saint Germain: Kylian Mbappe, Neymar Jr and Edinson Cavani.

Juventus: Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Mandzukic.

Manchester City: Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne

Manchester United: Paul Pogba

Chelsea: Eden Hazard and Ngolo Kante




The winner will be announced in a ceremony in Paris on December 3.
