CAIRO – 1 August 2018: Al-Ahly will host Ismaily at the Egyptian Premier League opening game of the season at Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.

Al-Ahly French manager, Patrice Carteron, will experience the Egyptian League for the first time as he was appointed manager last June.

Carteron will have a tactical battle with Ismaily new manager, Kheïreddine Madoui.

Both managers know each other well as they met at the 2014 CAF Champions League semi-finals when Carteron was coaching Congo’s Mazembe, while Madoui was the manager of his hometown club, ES Setif.

The Algerian team was searching for their second Champions League title and the first since 1988, while the Congolese team was the favorite team after an amazing run at the competition.

The first game in Algeria ended with a 2-1 victory for the hosts thanks to a last minute goal by their striker, Abdel Malek Ziaya.

It was not a comfortable victory for the Algerian team who knew they are awaiting a tough mission in Congo.

The first leg hero, Ziaya, surprised Mazembe fans when he opened the score at the second leg after 9 minutes to improve his team’s chances to reach the final.

The Congolese team response was amazing as they scored three goals by Daniel Nii Adjei, Salif Coulibaly and Jonathan Bolingi to make the score 3-1 which means that Mazembe will be at the final.

However, Setif’s striker, Sofiane Younès had another opinion when he scored the second goal 15 minutes before the final whistle to secure their qualification to the final.

Setif went on to achieve the title at the end defeating Vita Club at the final, while Carteron and his Congolese players had to wait till the next season when they achieved the title defeating another Algerian side, USM Alger, at the final.
