CAIRO – 9 July 2018: The Spanish Football Association announced Luis Enrique as the new head coach of the Spanish national team on Monday.
The Spanish team faced a problem just before the beginning of the World Cup, as the Football Association decided to sack the team’s former coach, Julen Lopetegui, after Real Madrid announced that Lopetegui will take charge of the team after the World Cup. The move led the association to sack him and give Fernando Hierro the responsibility to lead the team during the tournament.
Hierro managed to help Spain qualify to the round of 16, but unfortunately, the team lost to the hosts, Russia, through penalty shootouts.
On Monday, the official Twitter account of the Spanish national team announced that Enrique will be the new head coach of the team; Enrique won the world’s best club coach in 2014/2015 with Barcelona, after he led them to win 10 titles in three years, including the UEFA Champions League and FIFA Club World Cup.
