Egypt’s coach Hector Cuper hopes to find answers to fans’ questions in the next three friendly matches before starting the World Cup journey on June 15.
Egypt faces Kuwait on May 25, Colombia on June 1 and Belgium on June 6.

First question: how will the national team benefit from the selected 30-player squad especially after including new faces which will fight to book a place in the final 23-player squad?

Squad

The announced 30-player squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers:

Essam al-Hadary (Al-Taawon), Sherif Ekramy (Al-Ahly), Mohamed Awaad (Al-Ahly), Mohamed al-Shenawi (Al-Ahly)

Defenders:

Ahmed al-Mohammadi (Aston Villa), Mohamed Abdel Shafy (Al-Fateh), Ahmed Hegazi (West Bromwich Albion), Omar Gaber (Los Angeles FC), Ali Gabr (West Bromwich Albion), Amr Tarek (Orlando City), Karim Hafez (RC Lens), Ahmed Fathy (Al-Ahly), Saad Samir (Al-Ahly), Ayman Ashraf (Al-Ahly), Mahmoud Hamdy (Zamalek)

Midfielders:

Mohamed el-Nenny (Arsenal), Sam Morsy (Wigan Athletic), Abdallah al-Said (Al-Ahly), Tarek Hamed (Zamalek), Mahmoud Abdel Aziz (Zamalek)

Forwards:

Mahmoud Abdel Razek “Shikabala” (Al-Raed), Mohamed Salah (Liverpool), Ahmed Hassan“Koka” (Sporting Braga), Mahmoud Hassan “Trezeguet” ( Kasimpasa)
Ramadan Sobhi (Stoke City), Amr Warda (Atromitos Athen)
Marwan Mohsen (Al-Ahly), Ahmed Gomaa (Al-Masry)

Shikabala

Second question: how will the national team managers find the best substitute for Abdallah El-Said who plays in the playmaker position? Cuper has to settle on a player who can make a difference if Abdallah El-Said is absent for any reason. The best option for the Argentinean coach is Shikabala. Cuper aims to give former Zamalek’s player the chance to show his skills in the playmaker position. Other options that may seem to be suitable for Cuper are Amr Warda, Kahraba and Ramadan Sobhi.

Third and hardest question: who will be the main striker for Egypt in the World Cup? The Egyptian national team suffered for more than three years in finding the best striker who can score goals for the national team alongside Mohamed Salah. Recently, Cuper turned to search for a striker who could help Salah and Trezeguet (Egypt’s wingers). He will use the three friendly matches to settle on a striker from the following: Ahmed Hassan Kouka, Marwan Mohsen and Ahmed Gomaa.

defenders

This is the expected line-up for Egypt against Kuwait:
