CAIRO – 18 May 2018: Former English international player, Michael Owen, hailed Liverpool Egyptian winger, Mohamed Salah, after an amazing debut season with Liverpool.

“He has been absolutely brilliant this year, and has done very well in the Egypt team, taking them to the World Cup,” Owen told Marca on Thursday.

Salah has had an amazing season with Liverpool, scoring 43 goals at all competitions, including 32 goals at the Premier League that crowned him the league's Top goal scorer.

The winger also led Egypt to qualify to the World Cup for the first time since 1990 in Italy, scoring five goals out of Egypt’s seven at the qualifiers.

Asked about Salah’s chances to achieve Ballon d’ Or award, he said, “I think it will depend on who wins the Champions League. If Real Madrid wins, then Cristiano will be there once more. If Liverpool does it, Salah would be favorite.”

Salah led Liverpool to Champions League final for the first time since 2007 and he hopes to lead his team to achieve the title when they face Real Madrid at the final in Kiev on May 26.

Owen believes that Salah will reject all offers to stay at Liverpool; he said, “I don't think Salah is going to leave. I think Salah is very happy at Liverpool, he has had a great season and will be a key part in the exciting times ahead."
