CAIRO – 7 May 2018: Al-Ahly defeated Zamalek 27-26 in the title playoff match of the Egyptian Handball League in Suez.

Al-Ahly, who missed Mahmoud Assem and Ahmed Abdel Rahman due to injury, dominated the first half with great performances from Mahmoud Fayez, Eslam Hassan and Mohamed Abdel-Wareth; they managed to end the first half 16-9.

Zamalek’s biggest star, Ahmed El Ahmar, suffered an injury after 15 minutes and left the field, but he returned to participate with his team in the second half.

Zamalek returned in the game during the second half and were close to equalizing the score, but they missed their last chance, losing the game 27-26.

Al-Ahly players celebrated after the game with their manager, Assem Hammad, having succeeded in defending their League title.



“We deserved to win the League after a tough season. It is a precious title for the players and the fans,” Hammad told Al-Ahly’s official website after the game.

Al-Ahly won their 21th League title to increase the gap with their rivals, Zamalek, to five.

Al-Ahly has a chance to win the double, as they reached the Egyptian Handball Cup quarter-finals and will face National Bank of Egypt SC on May 11.
