CAIRO – 21 March 2018: Former Liverpool winger Harry Kewell believes that Mohamed Salah’s performance with Liverpool this season gives him the opportunity to beat Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to win the Ballon d’Or award.

“Salah has had a phenomenal season. If he was to have a fantastic World Cup, gets a couple of goals and plays well, and then continues again next season, why not go for the Ballon d’Or?” Kewell told talkSPORT on Tuesday.

Salah has scored 36 goals for Liverpool this season in all competitions, including 28 goals in the Premier League, making him top goal scorer of the league this season.

Kewell added, “He has this amazing dribbling ability, and defenders are scared of it. He’s got the goals; I don’t see why he couldn’t win it.”

Salah led Liverpool in the Premier League match on Saturday to defeat Watford 5-0, scoring four goals and providing an assist to Roberto Firmino.

Kewell showed his admiration to Salah’s technique with the ball, saying, “That’s the key with Salah; he drives at people, he’s chopping, turning, dribbling and people just don’t know how to deal with him.”

Kewell, 39, wore the Liverpool jersey between 2003 and 2008, and he was part of Liverpool’s squad when the club won the 2005 UEFA Champions League title.
