CAIRO – 24 February 2018: Al Ahly is due to face a new challenge when they host El Intag El-Harby in the 24th round of the Egyptian League on Cairo Stadium at 08:00 p.m. (CLT).

Al Ahly leads the Egyptian league’s table with 66 points. They exceed their nearest opponent, Al Ismaily, with 20 points and 30 points above the sixth placed El Intag El-Harby.

The ‘Red Devils’ succeeded to achieve 12 consecutive victories this season to get closer to their own number which was 21 consecutive victories back in 2005.

Al Ahly’s games against their old legend Mokhtar Mokhtar, El Intag El-Harby’s coach, used to be very competitive despite Mokhtar’s poor numbers against his old team as he witnessed 11 defeats, 6 draws and achieved only a single victory.

Al Ahly’s striker Walid Azzarou hopes also to continue his leadership on the top of goal scorers’ list this season as he is now on the top with 16 goals.

Last foreign player scored this number of goals in the Egyptian League was the Angolan former footballer, Amado Flavio, when he ended the 2006/2007 league season topping the list with 17 goals, then he repeated the achievement when he topped the list again two years later in the 2008/2009 league season with 12 goals.

Azzarou has the chance to score more goals as there are 12 games left in the league season. He can break the record of Zamalek’s legend Abdel Halim Ali when he scored 21 goals in 2003/2004 league season. But Azzarou would find it difficult to surpass Tersana’s legend, Hassan El Shazly’s, historical record as he scored 34 goals in 1974/1975 league season.
