CAIRO– 09 January 2017: Valencia’s officials are negotiating with Arsenal for the signing of midfielder Francis Coquelin.

Arsenal decided to put the Frenchman in the winter market after Arsène Wegner did not take him into account in his recent plans for the team.

Valencia immediately became interested in Coquelin, given that Valencia’s coach, Marcelino, knows him well from technical reports last summer. Also, Valencia defender Gabriel Paulista has given a good reference to his former teammate at Arsenal.

According to British newspaper Daily Mail, West Ham has joined the list of clubs betting on the midfielder.

Despite the interest of West Ham, Valencia’s operation still stands. Valencia has already initiated talks with Arsenal, and only the negotiation with Coquelin remains, according to Cadena Ser.

Despite being one of Wegner's discoveries, the Frenchman lost his prominence in the team this season.

Coquelin played for only 165 minutes in seven Premier League games, competing with Xhaka and Egypt’s Elneny.
